Why can’t you add more Ripped Classes?

We have added another Ripped Class as of January 9, 2006 on Thursdays at 4:30pm. Adding weekday, late evening, or weekend classes is not possible due to limited space availability and special events. They will be considered in the future, as space permits.

Why isn’t there more basketball available?

Three years ago, we did not have any guaranteed public gym space, as the time had been allocated to our sport partners. Since the expansion, we now have two additional gyms which allow us to offer one full gym for public use all day/every day. The other gym was split between our internal public programs and space for sport clubs. This allotment fills our timeslot and does not permit additional space for public, and unfortunately, no additional basketball time.

Why can’t one of the 50m pool stay at 50m?

The new pool was built to accommodate all of the users of Talisman Centre. This includes synchronized swimming, water polo, Talisman Centre Programs, swim clubs, and the general public, most of which require 25m or 30m to train. We understand that several public users appreciate the opportunity to train in a 50m pool; therefore, we guarantee Monday and Wednesday mornings from 5am-11am until March. Additionally, we will be reviewing the schedule daily to determine whether we can offer additional 50m lanes. We ask that you check our daily schedule for these changes. As of March 1, we should be able to add additional 50m guaranteed times, as our swim clubs will be training at 50m more frequently.

How do you choose the music in the weight room?

We choose radio stations that have been selected by the majority of our customers through past polling. During the polling process we asked for station preference and time of day customers are in the weight room. Through this information, staff will change the station throughout the day to reflect top preferences.

I can’t find parking during special events; are you adding more parking spots?

Unfortunately the reality is that the parking lot does not have enough stalls to handle the volume of people during a major event and we are not able to add additional stalls on our land. The cost of building an above ground parkade or underground parkade makes the prospect of a project like this very difficult. During events, we have taken the following steps to save stalls for our customers:

1. We put notices on the doors to inform users of the busy event and limited number of stalls. (Our website indicates alternative parking locations such as St. Mary’s School)

2. We have a parking attendant during peak times to ensure that only people coming to use the facility are permitted onsite parking. (eg: Flames Games)

3. We contact event coordinators to promote car pooling and busing of athletes.

Why is your track booked during peak times?

Last year we did not offer public track time while the track clubs were training. In 1983, the Board of Governors decided track clubs would be granted exclusive use of the four-lane track for their training needs as the primary function for this space. As a trade off, we were allotted additional funds to purchase treadmills for public/recreational use when the track was not open. Additionally, Lindsay Park Sport Society built the new track with a commitment to offer two lanes to the public all day/every day. We understand general public users prefer the four-lane track, however, it was designed for recreational use, so is unsafe to allow “high intensity training” in that space. For this reason, we will continue to support amateur athletics by allowing them the high performance track during the desired times and allow the recreational runners use of the alternate track.

Why is there limited public badminton?

When we offer only one full gymnasium for public users, we have determined that basketball would be the sport of choice, as we can accommodate a much larger number of players then any other sport. We do understand there is a demand for badminton, and, therefore, offer it as sport choice number two, meaning any time we offer two gyms for public use, it is allocated to badminton.

Are you going to add more lockers into the public change rooms (or make the change rooms nicer)?

In late 2004, we spent approximately $67,000 on repairs and modifications to the men’s and women’s public locker rooms. Work done in both locker rooms included new counter tops, sinks, additional shelves, additional electrical outlets, installed new hand dryers, painted walls and lockers, installed new mirrors, replaced all showerheads and curtains (women’s), and replaced urinals (men’s). In the fourth quarter of 2005 we replaced the shower stalls (men’s and women’s). In 2006 we plan to conduct research to determine whether more lockers and/or space can be added to better serve our members.

Why don’t you have TV’s in the new weight room (or on the cardio machines)?

It is our responsibility to provide the best possible resources for our customers with the annual budget. That has meant adding more cardiovascular and strength training equipment rather than TV’s. Difficulty does lie in finding a reliable and cost-effective provider; however, we are continually evaluating costs and reliability of equipment in the industry and would like to bring TV’s to the weight room when the timing is right.

PARKING ADVISORY
Free parking at Talisman Centre is restricted to members coming into the facility to train, for registrants coming in to the facility to take part in a program or attend a seminar, and visitors coming into the facility on business or to take a tour. Parking in Talisman Centre parking lot to go to off-site venues is prohibited unless otherwise indicated.

Our overflow parking map highlights areas to park around Talisman Centre, all within easy walking distance to the facility, during these busy times.

Refund Policy Refunds are issued for medical reasons (with a doctorâs letter), relocation out of town and cancellation due to low registration. A $20 administration fee is applied to refunds requested by the participants. Refunds will not be issued if a registrant withdraws less than 5 working days before a program starts.
